چکیده

Changes in wet and dry weight of the hvarl were investiniitcd in female rats iifter ovarit'ctorny antl foIlowinK the administration of oestrojifn. progestogen and a coinbinatinn of oestrogen and pnigestogcn. These clianRcs were related to hody weight iind the size of the extraceHiiIar fluid .space of the myocardium. Heart dry weiglit and iKidy weight in the animals given eombined oestrogen and progestogen were maintained closer to tho-se of the it)ntnil.s than in the animals given eitlicr hormone separately. The extracellular fluid space was increa.sed in the hearts of animals treated with a ctimbination of oestrogen and progestogt-n, whereas it was not altered in ovariectomized animals or in those given either hormone separately.

Experiments on the control of myometrial activity in the non-pregnant woman.

MYOMETRIAL activity is controlled by a series of anatomical, nervous and endocrine factors. We have concentrated on one group of endocrine factors, namely oestrogens and progestagens. In the beginning of these studies we used the openend catheter technique, introduced by Hendricks (1964). Later on we modified the technique by covering the intra-uterine end of the catheter with a small cylinder ...

Hormone replacement therapy is associated with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease: a retrospective cohort study

BACKGROUND Oestrogen and progestogen have the potential to influence gastro-intestinal motility; both are key components of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Results of observational studies in women taking HRT rely on self-reporting of gastro-oesophageal symptoms and the aetiology of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) remains unclear. This study investigated the association between HRT ...

Relations between bleeding pattern, endometrial histology, and oestrogen treatment in menopausal women.

Vacuum curettage was performed on 348 women who had received various regimens of oestrogen treatment for an average of 9.7 months for climacteric symptoms. In 62 cases (18%) the specimens were unsatisfactory for histological assessment; among the remainder, however, they showed a normal endometrium in 257 cases (90%), cystic hyperplasia in 21 (7%), adenomatous hyperplasia in 7 (2%), and endomet...

Synthetic progestogen-oestrogen therapy and uterine changes.

Continuous therapy with synthetic progestogen-oestrogen produces marked atrophy of endometrial glands and massive pseudodecidual stromal transformation. Cyclical therapy produces initially a ;frustrated secretory response' with precocious attempts at secretion in poorly developed glands. Pseudodecidua appears about the 20th day. With later cycles there is progressively greater gland atrophy whi...
